XTS5000R & RMN5021B PSM Volume Resets

Post by cracked »

Seems that when a RMN5021B PSM is used with the XTS500R (and maybe/likely others), the radio doesn't remember the last volume setting via the PSM after it's turned off and back on. Anyone know if there is a way around this, OR if there's some way to bypass the volume control on the mic and use the knob on the radio instead?

Easy. The RMN5021 is not a Public Safety Mic (PSM), its a Commander Remote Speaker Mic (RSM). Different animal. In the radio wide settings, advanced II tab, unselect "RSM locks channel/volume". OR, just don't use a commander. I find the NMN6247 (and its shorter corded brethren) PSM works much better anyway for my tastes.

The radio still defaults back to a minimum volume level even with "RSM locks channel/volume" checked. All that seems to do is lock the controls to the mic. The only way around it seems to be to set a minimum volume under the "Alert Tones" tab, which "sort of" fixes the problem.
