If you need it to TX at 168 you could run into a problem, if it's just for RX it should work OK aside from bit lower sensitivity. On the Maxtracs, you don't have any power control out of band. The PA will run wide open and can overheat fast. I first saw this when using a high split unit below 146.00. The radio would put close to 70 watts below 146.00, but at 146.00 it would be only 40 watts. What I have done with the high split units is to blank the unit, and reinitialize it as a low split (I know the low split only comes in a 25 watt chassis, but the 40 watt units tune up just fine). It will need a full re-alignment but I have always had it work. The RX does start to drop off below 140, but not real bad IIRC.

Another thing you may look at is trading the radio, a low split would be a good choice for a HAM. It should be easy to find someone who would do that tarde.

They might be for repeater or APRS use, if they can use a 5pin (I assume it is) for APRS.
