Nextel Direct talk

Post by jban »

Our City is switching back to Nextel phones. Upon reading the phone specs they now have "Direct Talk". The book states there are 10 channels and 15 codes. Anyone know what the actual channels are? Could they be interfaced on our 800mhz portables for interop in rural areas? I realize it would be short range but could be useful out in the boonies.

They are FHSS between 902-928 mHz if I recall correctly. I am sure that they could be linked together with something like this http://www.jps.com/downloads/pdfs/ACU_data.pdf but I don't think that is what you are looking for. For whatever it is worth, we did a test recently and they had about a 1 mile range.
