Connect Mike Phone to a Radio System

Post by Vercomm »

Hey guys,

I know this is a no no, but I'm needing some info in the next couple of days, so I posted here and in the system infrastructure.

Ok, so here's the setup.

I'd like to know what is the best way to connect a mike phone to a two-way radio repeater. Inbetween the mike and the repeater will be a controller that will only allow audio to pass when it receives the proper DTMF "link On" code. The controller will be responsible to key up the repeater and mike phone, depending on which one is receiving at the time.

What is out there to interface this, what has been used in the past, what works the best. Any tips, opinions, etc.. are much appreciated.

Unfortunately the only possible way for this system to work is to interface a Mike Phone to a VHF Repeater.

Thanks in advance!!

Jamie

What is a "mike phone"? Do you mean microphone?

Mike is essentially the Canadian version of Nextel, as offered by Telus Mobility.

Yes, sorry. Should have clarified, Mike is an iDEN phone offered by Telus Mobility, it is the same as the phones offered by Nextel.

I believe the Telex IP-223 will allow you to interface an iDen phone to the IP-223 and then you can patch it through to your conventional radio using the second port on the box.

So do I need any special cables to connect the mike phone to the IP223? what type of mike hand held would you use?

Dear MIKE user,

The SiteCAST+ from Critical RF, Inc. will do this as well and is much less expensive - plus I hear they even make it in the USA.

It will also allow you to talk from your MIKE unit and repeater to PC's and PDA's as a cool twist.

The iDEN unit must have a Tip and Ring jack for headsets and accessories as it was explained to me.

We use them here at our company and they work great!
