Jedi Convertacom

Post by kb9rre »

Hello guys. i wondering if anyone has experienced this problem. battery on ht goes dead while in mva with power on and it would not transmit. now it seems to me that the radio should still work weather the battrery is dead or not while in the cradle with power on. welcome feedback. manual does not have alot of details.

But the contacts on the back of the radio battery should be receiving power from the cradle to power his radio. That seems to be his issue, as I'm reading it.

It will not work if the battery is totally shot or shorted inside. Is your battery known to be good? Does it charge and hold capacity when a regular desktop charger is used? Have you tried using another battery?

battery is brand new. i have copared voltage reading of the contacts from a known good charger and the mva. and the mva seems to be sending negative voltage which is drawing battery down. so i guess i have a deffective control unit. wow brand new too.

Hard to believe a brand new Motorola vehicle charger is bad out of the box. What has become of my beloved /\/\... Shite happens though  . Guess there's no sense in asking if it's been wired to the car correctly?

At least you looked into the easiest parts of troubleshooting the problem first, and it has nothing to do with the radio or battery.

Where is the selector for the battery adjustment which is located on the side of the unit. It is normally selected with a quarter or a penny and will be used when you have an NTN7144 instead of the NTN7143 battery. I had many a PG fire ambo have a 43 battery with the selector in the 44 position. It would never charge the radio's battery and would work till the battery died. This was only after they figured out how to shove something into the bottom of the radio to "make it work" supposedly.

CoM
If the lights are out when you leave the station and then come on the second you key up, you know you have enough power.
