The no display/top display controller boards are physically different than the front display boards. So, you'd need to source a front display controller board to begin with.

I never heard this before and the controller will work on top display and full keypad radios. You only have to change the firmware and codeplug
of the controller after changing the housing.

Replacing the front housing is only half the battle.

What is the firmware version of your MTS2000?

Ain't happening. Assuming that your top display controller could support a front display (the majority cannot), you still need to Lab in a codeplug that supports the expanded display and keypad features; however, your firmware is too new to be touched with Lab. If you do, it becomes a paperweight.

Your best option is to sell your MTS2000 model 1 and buy an MT2000 or MTS model 3.

Can someone tell me if it's possible to convert a model 3 to model 1?

I have a spare MT2000 case with flex and top display and I can get a good deal on a model 3 MTS2000 with a broken display. I don't want to purchase the MTS unless I can get the display fixed for a reasonable price. Since I already have the housing, converting to model 1 would incur the least expense, since I don't have any model 3 displays hanging around at the moment.

If it matters, the firmware is 6.27 and the flashcode is 001008-000000-0.

Any advice with this is appreciated!

That's not going to work either.
