Motorola Manuals Online?
Anyone know if Motorola manuals are available online? I've been dangling ever since Motorola took' em away from the common man.

Well, it depends on what they are used for. Will wrote:I have kept some of the operator manuals ove the years, if someone would like to take the time to put them into a pdf format for others to use. I am not sure on the legalities on this.
For commercial/capitalistic money making purposes, then NO WAY!
For personal/academic/educational/ham purposes, then maybe.
Check up on the "Fair Use" provisions of the Copyright Law.
Has anyone tryed asking /\/\otorola for permission to distrubute their manuals? Perhaps they might be willing, if the web downloading user was required to declare that downloading was solely for personal or educational use... not commercial purposes... and will not be sold.
Time for my soap box rantings...
Personally, I feel that the duplication of any distrubuted works for personal or academic usage is protected under "Fair Use."
When people that go to the library, find an intresting article in a magazine, and copy it off so they can reference it later, they are not criminals of the Copyright Law.
In the same manner as above, I can't understand why borrowing a friend's CD, burning a clone of it, and giving the original back could be considered wrong.

I peeked at that site, and while it seems useful, I haven't used it yet. I'm a bit leery of the fact that everything there is an .exe file. What's the story with that? In this age of "safe computing," executables from unknown sources are like the plague . . .

Agreed. It's especially silly, since all the exe appears to do is create a directory and unpack the PDF file there. Why they just don't let you dl the pdf directly is a mystery to me. It also makes them difficult to access for Mac users.

Thanks Tomslick, I'm glad someone agreed with me. I was afraid I'd be called paranoid. (It's not paranoia if they really ARE out to get you.)
As for Motorola Online, how does one go about getting that?

Its the same site I got referred to. I threw caution to the wind and d/led and ran the .exe files - not to worry, they all check out and are merely just executable archives.Bob wrote:Hey guys.. look what I found! It's not comprehensive, but it's a good start. You can thank me later.![]()

Sweet. This is a good use of my hard drive space. LOL... windows executables must be a PITA for anyone using another OS to get at. Oh, well. Good find!w5atx wrote:I peeked at that site, and while it seems useful, I haven't used it yet. I'm a bit leery of the fact that everything there is an .exe file. What's the story with that? Actually April, I was there yesterday and downloaded service manuals for every Motorola radio I own. They even have service manuals there for the GP68 and for the PRO series export radios. Go to 'Resource Center -> Product Information -> Manuals' then select Portable or Mobile. I didn't even know that there is a PRO 5750 SZ trunking portable, but they have the service manual for it.

Try clicking the "+" icon that comes up next to them. That should expand another list....
Sometimes they would load for me, somethimes they wouldn't... give that a try... even if you hover in the space next to them, your curser should change to the hand icon, and you can click the link.

This bump is just for reference since the providing website no longer provides free copies of the manuals. Thanks to web archiving we can revisit ye old days of the internet. Enjoy:
