I go to program my ht1000 and it says RIB port communication unsuccessful. what could be my problem ? thanks

Your RIB isn't plugged into your computer's COM port, your RIB is bad, your computer's COM port is bad, your RSS is set to a different COM port from the one the RIB is plugged into, no power to your RIB, bad RIB to PC cable, or you're trying to use the wrong OS on your computer. Give a few more details, like computer specs, aftermarket or OEM RIB, aftermarket or OEM RIB to radio cable, etc. and we'll try to narrow it down a little more.

The cable is one off ebay. and the computer I'm using a pc running xp witch is problem my problem. i heard of a program called dosbox will this work if i use that ?

First are you using a RIB or Ribless cable?

Second, you should be programmming using only DOS, not a dos box......A fresh boot to DOS will help to keep you from turning your radio into a paperweight!

its a ribless and i am now using dos no more dos box and i get the same thing. i program my other radios with this computer no problem but when it comes to this one its like the program dose not even have to think about it it just gives me the error

Windows XP can steel com ports on bootup.
You need a REAL DOS boot disk, like DOS 6.22 , boot with the DOS disk then start the HT1000 RSS.

Note here: Windows 95 and 98 can be started in the REAL DOS mode and the HT1000 RSS works fine. Not sure on Windows 2000 or XP, Vista (just another window to look out of and see the VISTA!!!!!!).

Any time Windows starts it can take control of com ports even tho claiming to be in DOS mode.

the solution is to have a dual boot machine, however you have to install DOS/Win98 FIRST and then install 2000/XP. You will get a boot menu everytime you restart. If you select Windows 95/98, you can then "F5/F8" and select "safe mode command prompt only" and it is a DOS command line kernel, no drivers- as close to DOS 6.22. Note this will only work with newer RSS packages designed to run on Pentiums. You also have to have your DOS programs on a FAT32 partition, as if they are on an NTFS volume, DOS (including Win95/98/ME) cannot read NTFS partitions.

Easiest way is to partition a small (less than 200MB) FAT partition for your old legacy Windows/DOS O/S and RSS, then install 2000/XP on another large NTFS partition (you can still read/write to the FAT volumes when booting into 2000/XP, just not the other way round). Dual booting allows you to have both programming platforms on a newer machine. I am using a Dell Inspiron 2500 (1.2GHz Celeron with 512MB of RAM) running dual boot with Win 98SE and XP Pro SP2. I can run most modern RSS packages such as HT1000, MTSX 6.08, GTX, etc and when I need CPS, just reboot into XP. Older RSS such as STX, Saber, Spectra, etc I still use an old Thinkpad 360 486 DOS machine.
