Interface hardware for Motorola 2-way radios needed

Post by gatalec »

Hi,

I am developing a bridge for paging between an IP network and 2-way radios and we are looking for some hardware (cables, etc.) to interfaces both audio in/out and PTT activation to a PC.

So far I have been able to connect the radio (e.g. 2.5mm jack) to the sound input and output of a PC, but need a way to also activate the PTT functionality on the same 2.5mm jack. It seems like this may require some sort of relay activated by RS323/USB or other.

Is anyone familiar with any existing hardware solution that fits the bill?

Thank you for the help!

This is RS232, but I think it's along the lines of what you were thinking of:

And here's the USB version:

Hi Al,

thank you!

It looks like they may work.

Do you of any alternative a bit more "shrink wrapped" (i.e. with the 2.5mm/other connector for the radio) and lower cost ($100 or less). Since I will only need to interface one radio, I will not need multiple relays.

Thanks again for the help!
