What is this???

I recently aquired this radio. And its got this weird adapter thing on it. It screws in and the OEM goes right on top. Its not needed for the OEM to screw into the radio. It will work either way. I cant figure out what its purposes is. Anyone know?

Failed to mention this is a vhf HT750. And the OEM antenna screws on top of this gadget

Mobile vehicle antenna adapter (or whatever the convert-a-com for the waires series is called)....

oh ok. i still dont see what its purpose is. As it has the same type of connector as the radio has.

It allows the antenna connection into the car kit. One of the exposed metal rings is the ground, the other is the center pin carrying the RF. I wouldn't really want to be using it outside of the car kit...possibility of RF burns & all that.
