CDM1250 Low Band ROM CS ERROR

Post by jakecpunut »

Anyone gotten this error before? There are 2 ways this error comes about....

I can have the radio on the bench for a period of time and it will transmit and receive perfectly. All of the sudden you will hear a beep or double beep and the radio will show a ROM CS ERROR on the screen. Sometimes the radio will go back to the normal screen but will not transmit, receive or power off. It has to be disconnected from the power source for a while and then it will power back up and work fine for a bit...

secondly.. while the radio was showing the ROM CS ERROR, i picked it up and gave it a good jar on the bench and it came back to life and would work fine.. another slap on the bench and it would go back to the ROM CS ERROR

It sounds like a cold solder joint to me, but before we go digging I was wondering if anyone else had encountered this problem..
thanks for any replies!

Also try programming a good codeplug into it. The CS error comes up because something about what's in it now isn't totally right. It's a Check Sum error and usually comes as the result of using an aftermarket ribless cable.

We have seen this a few times at our shop. It sounds like a bad solder joint all right. The eeprom is an 8 pin soic on the top of the board in the front left corner if I remember. We usually don't see solder problems with this. It is usually the 100 pin micro on the back of the board. Try reflowing the micro. If you watch the chip select lines you can usually see the micro trying to stobe the eeprom and not getting a reply.
