USB programming cable for CDM1250 isnt working

Post by EMT-8Lima6 »

Hello,

New viewer here.

just purchased a USB programming cable with drivers for the CDM1250..... i am using Professional Radio CPS R06.04.00 and the drivers/Com ports are correct but for whatever reason it says that i cannot connect to the radio....it thinks for about 15-20 seconds and then says cannot connect. Any ideas? My old laptop i used to program the radios with finally died and this new one is my only option. Please Help!

What radios do you own?: HT1550's, X9000's, CDM1550's

i have one of those and it will not work on a laptop, there is not enuf power in the usb port to run the cable. it works perfect on every desktop i've ever used it on tho.

ok i confirmed i dont believe it is a power issue as the cable is only using 100MH of the allotted 500MH available to that port..... any other ideas?

What are the specs on your laptop?

CDM CPS really needs a pentium processor and a stable platform to work. Check your cable for any recessed pins. Find another CDM if you have one and see if it takes to it. Also check your port settings under control panel to see if settings are OK.

IMHO waris lines are quite "flaky" in terms of programmming it.

MY Laptop is a AMD x64 2.0 GHZ...... im checking the cable's pins ....otherwise what should the port settings be? its defaulted to whatever the Prolofic USB to Serial Drivers set it to.....also confirmed it on another CDM1250 that i know works and programs easily with my old regular serial cable.........

USB-to-serial converters are flakey with the Waris CPS at the best of times. Unlike some of the other versions of CPS which provide a list of "tested" converters in the readme file, there is nothing in the Waris readme about using any sort of converter at all, it only advocates a serial port. So, either your cable is bad, or the combination of your particular laptop with those particular drivers being used with that particular CPS just ain't gonna work. I'd highly recommend a PCMCIA serial card, they have a much higher success rate.

Where can we buy this at? I have been searching to find a USB cable for the CDM and can't find anything.

I had the same provlem... I downloaded updated usb drivers from the Intel (motherboard in my laptop) web site. I also loaded the Prolific usb to serial driver. It now works but I do have to go in and update the prolific driver everytime I use the usb port. Its a pain but it now works....Good luck!!

when i originally replied to this post i did have one of the aftermarket usb cables and it did only work on desktops running xp and it worked great for about four months then it quit working on any machine so i went back to the good old reliable rib and cable which is what i'd suggest you go with instead of usb. i'll never get another usb cable unless it's oem from motorola.

I am not 100% familiar with the rib/ribless setup. Where can I get a ribbox (I already have the cable) that will work for a laptop with a LPT port only - no serial?

Thanks!
