Astro 25 Series Scan Capabilities

Post by MB »

Do the Astro 25 series mobile radios (specifically the PM1500) have the same scan list limitations as the CDM1250 series mobiles? By scan list limitations, I mean that they are only able to scan 15 + 1 modes or channels at a time.

If so, why does Motorola put such a limitation on the number of channels that can be scanned at one time? In the public safety field, I have ran into countless circumstances where more then 16 channels need to be scanned. Especially if you are a State or County agency.

Other radio manufactures have dynamic bank, scan lists and channel configurations, where you can add numerous channels to one scan list. Why does Motorola make they programming so limiting and difficult?

16 channels in conventional mode, 10 talkgroups in trunking mode.

The limitation may well have something to do with scan speed... on most commercial radios, as you start adding more channels, you get to a point fairly quickly where the scan speed is slow enough that you miss important transmissions. Of course, my Kenwoods commonly have 40-50 channels in scan, with no huge lag. 150 channels is a different matter. It could well be a liability issue.

I could have sworn I read somewhere that it had to do with APCO or some other type of organizations recommendation. I don't really have a problem with it, I just wish you got more than 10 talkgroups. If you can have 15 conventional then why not 15 trunked?
