MTX8000 "Codeplug Too New" Error workaround?

Post by N4RPD »

Folks, this maybe has been asked before, but I could not find it in the index so I will ask it again.

Trying to program some 800MHz MTX8000 radios with conventional freqs, B3s and B5s, and get the "Codeplug too new for RSS" error. Using RSS R06.00.00 version and I know it is outdated, but like I said before, I am just doing conventional channels/freqs only, no trunking. I can get the RSS to read the codeplug, but then it errors out.

Here is the question, it there a way to spoof the RSS? Maybe modify an older codeplug then using Clone to get it into the radio? I have tried cloning it and I get a Checksum error which tells me that there is still some reading of the codeplug prior to writing over it going on.

Is there something in the codeplug that I can hack with a hex editor?

Thanks,
Rob

The 'codeplug too new' error message is simply indicating that the version used to program the radio, is a later version than the one you have.

So in short, you need to upgrade your copy in order to program the radio.

It may have been programmed using CPS also, that's a possibility as well.

I think the CPS only worked on the MTS2000, the MTX8000/9000 were stuck with the RSS.

edit.... not questioning your general knowledge of things /\/\, you seem to be able to answer questions I have never even thought of possible

Grog:

I think you are correct on that statement...Since I don't use CPS, I've never had the opportunity to even try it.

For what it's worth from me, it is a fact that CPS is for exclusive use with MTS2000s only... Guess that's why Motorola calls it "MTS2000 CPS".

I sure wish it worked with the same radios as MTSX RSS.

The reason you're getting a checksum error is because the 'feature sets' of the codeplug you're using and the radios you have do no match. You can normally clone in a codeplug from an earlier version of RSS, but it has to be identical to the target radio.
