Saber (not syssaber) Lab RSS?
Is there a Lab version of the regular Saber RSS available? Before someone chimes in with it, I know its NLA from Motorola (if it ever was actually "available" from them). I just want to know if any such even exists. I'm trying an experiment and need a way to put a codeplug in a Saber I without the normal "sanity check" before the write. Any ideas?

If there was, I never saw it when I worked on Sabers at the depot. But then we never tried to force things into the codeplugs. A quick check of the internal hardware and the programming usually showed the problem (such as wrong frequency range selected, in other words, programmed wrong).

That's what I was afraid of. That's pretty much what I'm trying to do, force a wrong codeplug in one. I'm trying to force one to take more than the "proper" number of PL tones. Why Mother M felt like they had to limit it like they did, I'll never understand.

Sounds like you have a 2KB Saber II then, eh? They limited it because there's only 2KB of EEPROM available - if you add too many tones, you'll get a plug that won't pack into 2KB.kf4sqb wrote:That's what I was afraid of. Saber RSS is pretty generous anyway - you can program just about anything into any radio, no matter how ill-advised, into any radio.
BTW, Lab RSS isn't NLA because it wasn't available in the first place. Lab is supposed to be restricted to the Motorola depot only and very few other places. The Lab RSS that exists out there has been "leaked" (through various methods).

Actually, its a Saber I. While I know the engineers at Motorola that originally designed these radios know more about whats going on than I do, I fail to see how the info necessary to put separate PL tones on each channel would exceed 2k unless there are a lot more options enabled. Take the 1225 series, for example. You can do whatever you want, untill you run out of room. Then, the software simply won't let you add anything else. No one feature is limited, untill you actually run out of room. Oh, well, I guess I'm ranting over something I can't change. Thanks for all the info!

I'm starting to wonder if it's a better idea to program multiple channels with the same frequency and different PLs versus enabling MPL. Last code plug was 8191 bytes.
