Hi All!

With a lot of knowledge gained from all on the board, I recently managed to move the controller from my 5D Saber II onto the chasis of a 6D Saber I, put the whole thing in a Saber III case, and actaully wound up with a happy working radio. (Time to go click that "Make a Donation" button.....)

The only downside is that the 5D chasis had the "ergo" secure switch with the emergency button, and the 6D chasis has the switch without the emergency button. While I have yet to be cornered by a crazed lunatic while on duty, two of the agencies that I work with do support MDC emergency, and I hate to give it up.

So, what is the easiest way to move the switch? Both switches appear to only have three contacts connected to the flex. Can I simply trade the switches, or will I have exchange the main boards between each chasis?

My soldering skills are up to the task, but I'm not sure about the mechanics of getting that switch out intact.....

Thanks in advance!

You only have to exchange the button assembly. But that's tricky all by itself. The neck of the button's shaft is retained between two flat metal tongs. You have to carefully spread the tongs JUST far enough to let the button pop out. Really, it should be done with two people because it takes three hands. And if you overbend the tongs, you've got a part to replace.

Talk about glad I asked.....

That was really easy (once you know the secret).

A small pair of retaining ring pliers made a great substitute for the third hand, and the clips escaped unharmed.

Thanks again Elroy!

I think that Elroy deserves a thumbs up, or a donation page of his own as from the advice and techincal help that he has provided he is a CREDIT to BatLabs.

I TOO think that I am going to do a donation.
