Losing Mic Audio in Tone Remote

Help!!

We have 2 comtegra consoles set up and connected to a TNA200 / MCS2000. All is fine on the RX side, and for the most part on the TX side (4 wire, full duplex).

Heres the problem:

From time to time, when someone is using the attached desk Mic, the TX Audio will drop @ the radio. This only happens if someone gets right up on the mic, or yells into it. The TX carrier still stays up, and the consoles still show the audio as good but nothing is being transmitted. This happens on both consoles, so I am assuming it's somewhere in the radio or TNA200, but I have no idea where to look.

If you talk at a normal level, all is good..

Any Ideas.??

As a guess, could the mike audio level be set far too high, causing the voice to roll off the 2175 hold tone?

I would check the levels on the tone remote.

If too high, it will cause the TX audio to cut out as it's outside tha passband, and it may also interfere with the 2175 guard tone as well, but I doubt it.

In regards to the remote levels: I can adjust the outut level of console to the remote (which is set @ 0 DB), and I can change the MIC level, or adjust the gain on the deskmic itself.

I am thinking the deskmic and/or the MIC level in the console should be brought down. Am i looking down the right path?

The Tone remote is local, so there is no loss on the line between the console(s) and the adapter.

Usually, all TX audio is passed TO the TRC, and then fed to the radio/console, Etc....

If you have the manual handy, check the specs on proper levels, and check them on the TRC at the specified test points.
Like teh Consolettes, the TRC board was placed under the XTL radio and you have to remove the radio and then pop the cover to access all the adjustments and test point...what a PITA that is!

Even at 0 dBm, that level may still be too hot to pass throught the TRC, as I've had levels that are 'supposed' to be -10 dBm below inorder for the station to work properly.

Our NXUs are properly fed at -12 to -15 dBm....so use your judgement as to what levels to work with.

Remember, you can't turn it down at the receiving end, it must be adjusted at teh tranmission end in order to function well.

I have seen a similar issue when attempting to use an MC1000 handset in place of the proper one with a C200 tone remote/TNA200 combination. Works ok until you talk loudly into it. It's essentially interfering with the 2175Hz low-level guard tone.

Is the desk mic you are using the older beige HMN1038, or the newer black HMN3000? The newer ones I find are much 'hotter' than the 1038's were by default. The newer consoles such as the MC2500 need the HMN3000 in order to work properly, the older mics sound like crap no matter how you adjust them. The Comtegra being an older design probably needs the 1038 to work properly, or maybe the 3000 to be turned down.

Otherwise, the remote should be set for -10dBm output since it's working locally, not 0dBm.

I will look into the model of the mics on Tueday When I am back in. I do know they are the MCS2000 desk mic (used before the tone remote setup). and the gain is about all the way up. (as they were set before the comtegra / TNA200 setup was installed. I am guessing I am going to have to back the gain all the way down, as well as the MIC level in the console.
