MTS2000 + TOOLPROOFING is MISSING?

Post by xslashx33 »

Ok, so i bought a VHF mts2000 of ebay, i got it today and started poking around with the secret software, its firmware ver: 6.27, i realized this radio didnt have mdc so i got a s rec that had mdc enabled, why is it that i could load the srec from the donor radio and not TOOLPROOF the radio? Hell, i can even read it with lab and change and program it and the radio works fine.... I thought toolproofing was introduced in 5.47 and higher.....

The radio won't just automatically brick if you use lab. Lab does work if you're carefull.

Make one slip though, and you've screwed the pooch...

Rumor says that European MTS2000 (The one with "MADE IN EC" in the back) are not toolproof-able, even though they are in R06.XX. I haven't tried this myself but that might explain what you are seeing

This is true, I have messed around with a few EU models and never killed one yet.

This is true....

Is this verified? The EU models are actually NOT tool proof?

It does seem to be the case that they are not, but I'm hoping that you guys are confirming it here... It'll open up some new possibilities for me if this bit of info is accurate. 8)

Have a look in the reply above you. Apparently they are OK to mess around with. Even so, you can always follow the steps in the info page to get yourself out of the mud.

I'm seriously tempted to pick up another one of these little gems, too bad the price seems to have almost doubled since I grabbed the first one.

Sigh, inflation and popularity are gonna kill me yet...
