What you have there is a Centracom Gold series CRT operator position, either Classic or Elite.
Plug & play?
Sure.
The grey box is the console interface electronics - the CIE. It connects to the workstation computer.
You plug the CIE into a CEB [Central Electronics Bank] That's one or more seven foot racks containing card cages and power supplies, operator interface cards, base station interface cards, receive interface cards, and trunking, Astro or audio switch interfaces as appropriate to the specific system.
You plug the computer into the console system network so it can communicate with the server that is running the console database manager application, alias database manager, etc.
Hook a display, keyboard and mouse onto the computer, boot it up and you're ready to play.
So in sence this in NOT a plug and play unit , yo still need the CEB. Does the CEB have to be the 7ft rack or can you make your own with motorola parts. what I am tring to do is, make a mobile dispatch, or comunicactions center, where we can conect radios from different areas, (i.e. 800, UHF, VHF). The CIE is just a bridge between the Console and the CEB, you do not connect the radieos directly to this unit.

So you want to construct a multi-operator, multi-radio dispatch console by using a single Centracom operator position, and rolling the rest of the hardware and software yourself from parts (Motorola or otherwise). Right?
I'd like to build my own 777 from duct tape and bailing wire, but the probability of it a. happening and b. working are hovering quite close to zero...

Funny, Funny, But here in Mexico where whe do not have all the pleasures of the USA, we sometimes have to build a 777 out of duct Tape.
The salient point remaining that, wherever it is built with tape, it will crash.
Westcom: I believe your proposed project is infeasible. However, take a look at the Zetron 4010, which is a "console" that integrates the operator position and the equivalent (more or less) of the CEB in a single box. That box will contain the "channel cards", which are what specific radios connect to. The 4010 comes in two flavors: a desktop unit and a rack-mount unit.

Just because it looks like a 777, doesn't mean it will actually fly like a 777.
Your project is infeasible. If you had a near-complete CEB and operator positions, then maybe. You're trying to build a supercomputer with nothing more than a keyboard and a few scraps of wire - ain't gonna happen.
