Re: Mts 2000
Steve, according to the model number, your friend has the Model I 800MHZ MTS2000.
As for how much it's worth, that's dependent upon several factors. One of which being is it a "true" MTS2000 radio, and not just a hacked MTX in a MTS case. One way of finding this out is on the back of the radio, the MTS should have the factory tag, and on the bottom left portion of that tag, should be the flashcode. Again, the radio can be worth more, or less depending on what that radio is flashed to do. True 800MHZ MTS2000 flashport model I radios can bring in anywhere from $150 on upwards of $350 on E-bay, dependent on what I previously mentioned, and the condition of the radio (scratches, missing pixels in the display, etc.
Hope that helps.
Oh, and if your friend does not know what's in his flashcode of the radio, you can check out the Flashcode decoder here on the Batlabs main page. (Utilities, other resources, Interactive Flashcode decoder).

Re: Mts 2000
also depends on the flashcode, age, firmware version. Older 256K controller MTS2000's aren't capable of being rebanded, and thus, are worth much less than newer ones.
As far as value, keep in mind the MTS, while an excellent radio, has been EOL'ed. And while there are plenty of suckers on Ebay willing to fork over 500 bucks for an analog radio, in reality they are yesterday's technology. Motorola isn't selling analog trunking and are pushing hard on existing customers to upgrade to P25. For not much more money, one can buy used XTS3000 and Astro Sabers, I wouldn't pay that much for an 800. VHF and UHF MTS2000's have now flooded the market as well, and the value has dropped considerably.

If the UHF Astro saber was flashed for IMBE Digital Operation, then yes, that would be a very decent trade

Also, as Erik has stated above, the market has indeed been flooded very recently with UHF MTS2000's, some VHF, etc. making their value drop down as well. I remember a few years ago a Model I UHF MTS2000 would go on E-bay at the minimum $350 and up. Now-a-days, a UHF HT1000 with 16 channels will go for more then a MTS2000 would. Go figure. I do however love my MTS2000, and would never consider selling it in the least. They are one of the best build portable radios that Motorola has made IMO.
