Centracom Elite config problem

Post by radioguy77 »

Hopefully I can explain this so everyone understands what I'm talking about. A while back I made changes to our config file on our Centracom Elite software. I made changes in the paging icons. Our rescue squad eliminated a group tone and went with a single tone. We made several group icons for dual response with the fire departments so we wouldn't have to click an icon for each department. Everything worked fine after I made the changes. Over the weekend both consoles resorted back to the old config and the dispatchers couldn't send out the rescue squad because I changed the name on the rescue icon. I had them shut down Centracom and re-start it and the new config came back. I have two theories.

1. The former director was demoted to dispatcher. This weekend was her first time back after taking some extended time off. She is messing with stuff to get revenge.

OR

2. I didn't save the file right??? I've been reading here a little bit about how the file is stored locally at each console and on a server? Our config file is named a specific name (our entity name). Should it be called something else? There are no other config files in that specific directory/folder. A year ago or so when we re-started the console (power failure, etc.) the config would load automtiacally and the console would come right up. Now the console won't come up until we manually click on the file to load it. Maybe that helps explain something.

ALSO - Why would one of the consoles have the manual page icon available while the other console does not? The admin software was on both consoles at one time but it seems it disappeared from one of the consoles. Mysterious things are happening.

THANK YOU so much for any help.

Did you save the new configuration with the same name as the old one? Although we don't use paging at my agency, we've had issues where the startup shortcut points to "default.cfg" and we created a new one called "agency.cfg", so we had to change the startup shortcut to load the new config (obviously) since the old one wasn't what we wanted anymore.

The location where files get saved can vary, depending on how your systems were connected. But, when Dispatch is launched, and a configuration is chosen, a copy of that configuration is saved on the local computer. You can click Configuration->Last Configuration (or press Ctrl+L on the keyboard) and it will load whatever configuration was loaded last. (So if you loaded the new one and then someone clicked Ctrl+L or chose 'Last Configuration' it's entirely possible that the old config loaded.)

Yes that helps.

I went in yesterday and took a look at things. I originally saved the file with the same name as before. I did find a file called lastconfig.elt (local hard drive and server) so I saved that one to a disk and copied the current config to lastconfig.elt. Hopefully that will solve the problem.

Thanks!
