I have a cable here that looks exactly like the remote cable for the spectra series handheld control head. When I plug it in to the radio i get a popping sound on the speaker and cannot turn on the head. Are there any cables that were made that looked exactly the same as this, but were made for a different purpose?
Thanks!

Is your radio a handheld control head configured? Sounds like the radio is NOT for a handheld control head.

Considering that the damned hooser OP is a HHCH super stud, I doubt he'd make that mistake. He's asking about a cable that LOOKS like the proper W3 cable, not one that IS the proper W3 cable. Will wrote:Is your radio a handheld control head configured? It's not a cable with 2 DB25s and a long cable splitting off of one into a DB9, is it? If so, that's a data interface cable for the Astro (Saber) Vehicular Adapter.

OK; remember that Motorola makes an A version for the analog Spectra and a B version for the Astro Spectra. They sent me the wrong one, once; and I went bananas for half a day trying to figure it out until I actually looked at the P/N. Both look exactly the same. Just a thought...
Re: Help identify cable similar to Astro Specta W3 remote cable
That sounds like the ticket. I was not aware of the A and B revisions of the cable. I assumed the analog version worked with the astro as well. Obviously I was mistaken. My "B" revision cable is nice and glossy and the "A" revision cable is flat in finish (not worn). Is this typical of these control head cables, or just a fluke?

Code 3,
I've seen both of both. It depends on where they were made and what mood they may have been in at the time. Some feel that the matte finish is best and others like the glossy. I don't have a preference, but some feel that one is more beneficial than the other. Personally; I like the glossy because it slides through vehicle interiors easier... Your milage may vary...
