I have a pair of HT1000s and both need new rear chasis covers (battery slots are broken). I have re-cased radios before without problems, and have a service manual for reference. What I want to know is how hard is this REALLY gonna be to do? Are there any instructions/procedures not covered in the manual? Am I better off sending them out for repair, or should I just scrap them? Any advice would be helpful.
Also anybody know where I can get a good deal on referb kits for the HT1000?

Re: HT1000 Question
Hell no you don't want to scrap them if they're good otherwise! Removing the front cover, boards, shield and switch assembly from the chassis/frame is a piece of cake.
It isn't hard at all. If you have the service manual you just carefully follow the dis-assembly sequence instructions and diagrams. I have built at least 15-20 JEDI's from component parts and they're designed to be mechanically service friendly. Not even any tools involved.
Also, the chassis/frame is NOT included in the refurb kit. Good luck with finding those.
I only wish I knew more about getting into the programming and hacking of these things...
Refurb kits for the HT1000 these days are another story. If you can find them for less than $45.00 shipped, then please let me know too.
From MOL;
======================================================================================================
REX4398A
Replacement kit - 2/8/16 Channel cosmetic replacement kit
2/8/16 CHAN JEDI REPLCMNT KIT Available; YES... List price$44.10
======================================================================================================
I think this is for the front cover housing and and stickers only. No knobs, PTT strip or dust cover included. If you need to buy the chassis/frame seperately, MOL indicates you need to contact them directly.
Suggest you get the frame/chassis from a used source...

Re: HT1000 Question
Thanks for the info Terry. I'm going to start trying to round up case parts from the local Moto dealers in the morning. You wouldnt happen to have any of those rear covers lying around would you?
Thanks again for the info.

Re: HT1000 Question
I'm afraid not Tino. Only two I have right now have the battery tabs busted off, like yours. They're no good for anything so I'm going to throw them away.

Re: HT1000 Question
Part number I believe you are looking for is 1505892U06. Refered to as the casting by those at the depot. List price on that is 44.89. Hope it helps.
Re: HT1000 Question
If your HT1000s were built before 1997(i.e. having s/ns xxxATAxxxx through xxxAXVxxxx) you should have a copy of SRN1243A on hand. The referenced SRN describes transceiver boards not fitting properly into replacement castings, and the corrective action needed (i.e. dremel tool with bit) to get a good fit if your board does not seat properly in the replacement casting.
Re: HT1000 Question
As Terry mentioned, Jedi's are real easy to disassemble. I have taken them apart in a pinch with nothing more than a car key and fingernails... (long story
).
At any rate, if you need any help, drop me a PM.
Good luck,
John
