SP50 Board Edge Compression Clamp

Post by Drjohn1623 »

Greetings All,
I am repairing an SP50 compact and replacing the case front. Does anyone know how the compression clamp attaching the flatlead from the case front to the board is removed? I know this flat lead is delicate and breaks easily so I want to remove the clamp correctly. Is it just a matter of prying it off with a small flat driver or is there a trick?
The advice of somebody familiar with the radios would be very much appreciated.
Thank you.

The two ends of those clamps have holes in them and nubs on the edges of the PC board engage them. I put a small screwdriver between that large chrome sink and the one end of the clamp compressing the clamp end enough to allow it to pass over the PC board nub then swivel the other end of the clamp off. Re-attaching is just a matter of holding the flex in place and just pressing the clamp in place, the ends are springy to allow them to pass over the nubs and lock in place.
