Computer and CPS Software

I know this has probably been asked time and time again, and I tried a search but could not really find exactly what I need.

I have several CPS softwares, mainly I will be using the HT750/1250, and CDM1225, etc software for the HT750 and HT1250 radios for my fire department, as well as MAYBE the Radius GM300 radio, I also have the CPS for that, at least I think it is CPS maybe DOS?

I do not know the versions right now, as my other computer JUST took a dump, so I did not get a chance to transfer them to this laptop. I also have an OLD Toshiba that I have been using for my MT2000 and HT1000 RSS for DOS.


My Question is would this laptop work fine for using the CPS on the radios, or is it too fast?

My OLD laptop that I used for Dos has Windows 95, but NO CD ROM, so I can not put any CPS on it, as the files are too big to put on floppy to transfer. Also will this computer be fine to use in DOS as well if I boot from it, never tried, but maybe able to, or should I just stick to my older Toshiba?

I know some people say they use Windows XP and everything, and the computer that just took a dump on me has Vista and I was able to play around with the software and check it out, worked fine, but did not read any radios or write anything, just used codeplugs I downloaded already. But I know it would be to quick with it's speed and also Vista.

Thanks, and like I said I will be using CPS for HT750/1250 radios and then maybe CDM radios, and also a GM300 radio.

Thats what I thought. I figured I would have to use the old laptop for DOS anyway as I would not really trust anything newer than can not boot in DOS.

I really just wanted to double check that CPS would work fine, which I kinda thought it would if people are using XP for programming.

you can dual boot, or what I did was create a FAT32 partition where RSS for later radios (specifically MTSX and HT1000 for radios that CPS doesn't exist for) and boot from a DOS CD. DOS can only "see" that partition, so it works fine and no way to hose up the NTFS partition is use by XP. Running CPS for Astro 25/16 and MTS2000 on a Dell Latitude 610 (1.2GHz P4) with 512MB of RAM- MTSX and HT1000 run great under a true DOS boot disk.

Thanks for the info, except I do not really have a half of a brain for computer when it comes to creating things like partitions and I have no clue what a FAT32 is, a Fat 32 year old,

But really, if I kinda knew what I was doing, and could trust myself not to make a brick out of my radios then I would do it, so I think I am going to have to stick with my old Toshiba, that I know works well. I was leary as I bought a RIBLess cable, NOT from KAWA, and it works great, so I was scared at that. I used to have a RIB, but gave it away (STUPID STUPID) a year or two ago when I sold my Systems Saber, again STUPID STUPID!.


I ordered another RIBLess cable from the same place, for the HT750 and up radios as well as the GM, and CDM radios.

Although it would be nice to have to only use my Toughbook, instead of carrying both radios around if I need to go somewhere, the Toshiba looks pretty rugged, before they made all the laptops nice and sleek.

Put all of your S/W on a big flash drive. No CD needed. Most laptops, even the old ones, have a USB port. Much simpler, especially when the puter takes a dump, your flash drive is still fine.

You might need to download USB flash drive device drivers for Win 2k/NT/98 machines.
