TRS auto-affiliate issues
I have an XTS3000 that has developed some issues with initial affiliation with a TRS. Normally, I turn the radio on and it auto-affiliates no problem and goes right to work, receiving and transmitting. In the past few weeks, I have noticed that upon turning the radio on, there is no activity (when other nearby radios are clearly communicating) and the radio does not even affiliate. Keying up will sometimes cause the red PTT led to flash and is typically followed by a bonk.
After letting the radio sit there for a little while (anywhere from 30 seconds to 3 minutes), the radio affiliates and receives and transmits just fine.
Any suggestions on what may be wrong and how to fix it?
Also, when this problem occurs, I can switch to conventional channels or another TRS in the area and it operates with no issues whatsoever. Other radios on the TRS (portables, mobiles) have no issues.
Any help or tips are greatly appreciated.

Re: TRS auto-affiliate issues
My first guess is that something may have changed with the system. If your not an authorized user,
all sorts of things may be happening. If by some chance you have a duplicate ID, the system may
have trouble with your ID in that radio. The system may have changes the monitoring software
and is now looking for strange activity.
There are a number of reasons why you might be having trouble. You should check with the radio
system manager and find out if anything has been changed that would effect your radio.

Re: TRS auto-affiliate issues
Thanks. I am an authorized user (or else, why would I want to auto-affiliate) and have inquired with the shop. Their recommendation is to either reprogram it (which I don't get if it was working just fine two weeks ago and then works ok after a few minutes) or just give me a new radio. I am trying to figure out what the issues may be in the first place.
Can we rule out any hardware failures on the radio at this point?

Re: TRS auto-affiliate issues
It sounds like it's not seeing the control channel and takes a while to find it and affiliate. Maybe have it serviced, and reprogrammed to make sure it has the latest settings from your shop.

Re: TRS auto-affiliate issues
Thanks Luie, I think you're right. I just tried reprgramming it with no success. Also tried using different trunking IDs with no change in the symptoms... It appears that once it finds the control channel, all is well - but as soon as you turn it off or go off the system, it de-affiliates and when you try to come back, you start at square one.
Wonder why it's not seeing the CC.
Thanks. Off to the shop I go!

Did they start rebanding the system?
Lowband radio. The original and non-complicated wide area interoperable communications system

Where did the OP say it was UHF? I think it's a legitimate question.alex wrote:on UHF?Pj wrote:Did they start rebanding the system?

Alex....I was thinking of the "other" one that I normally use when down there...forgot about his primary one there. Doh!

Re: TRS auto-affiliate issues
How many control channels do you have in your list? Try putting the one you need as the first one. Try deleting all of the others. Also if it's a SmartZone system make sure your site preference is set to always.

Re: TRS auto-affiliate issues
I was sitting and having lunch with the OP last week, plus PJ knows the OP as well and should know that it would be the UHF system - therefore, I felt it was fun to give him a quick Jab.LuiePL wrote:Where did the OP say it was UHF? Sorry for not filling others in on the joke.
