Hey guys,
I have a question and i need some serious advice. I ran into a problem recently with one of my ht12150 radios, we were using it at a scene and the next thing you know we go to transmit with it and it cuts out and never turns back on. as for what i know it wasnt dropped or anything dumb like that. so i take it in to the local authorized M service center and about a week later the guy calls and tells me hes done everything he can inside his shop and cant find the problem. Apparent power problem , not the battery as we tried several. No LCD screen, no xmit, no beeps. Nothing. He tells me he needs to send it out to the factory for repair and it will likely cost near 300 dollars to repair and i will receive an almost brand new radio when it comes back. I decided to hang on til i questioned people here on the truth to his story as i have never experienced this before. What should i do? shall i let him send it in for repair, or take it to another motorola place near by, they are not the authorized service center but they do repair our minitor pagers for us and usually do a fairly decent job. Sorry for writing such a long story but any advice would be well worth me hearing. I appreciate it..
Mike~

Re: Looking for some good advice
I'd send it out for the flat rate repair to the Depot..
Re: Looking for some good advice
It is very likely the reference oscillator which is defective. Shops cannot even order the crystal from Motorola, so you're likely stuck with paying the 'flat-rate' which is around the $300 mark. So, the shop isn't trying to screw you over at least.

Sounds like the pico fuse is blown. They cost a few bucks from Mouser.
If the radio does get repaired, let us know what fixed it - thanks.....
