Jedi Unwanted Beeping Noises

Post by W3MOT »

Hello,

I've dealt with several Jedi (MT2000's, MTS2000s, and HT1000's) radios and all of which have had the unwanted beeping noises that all of the sudden start beeping rapidly. It seems if you punch the radio hard enough, it'll stop. However, after a while, (hours or so) it'll do it again. Anyone know what this is? I always thought the problem was with the flex cable not being secured to the radio, but I'm sire I'm wrong. I figured I'd throw this on Batlabs knowing that someone would know better than I would...

Thanks!

I have an MTS2k that was recased and [I'm too lazy to fix] the top side button that is pinched just so that it's VERY sensative. It's programmed in such a way that it beeps and does nothing else. If I set it down just right it will beep... and beep... until, ya, I punch it and it stops. I should fix that.

Replace the case and/or flex, common issue on older Jeids (and ones that have seen abuse in the field)

Recased many a JT1000 and MTS/X with that issue.

Thanks, I figured that was the underlying problem. However, the case/flex is brand new (refurb'd about two years ago). I'm thinking it's the flex cable that attached to the actual radio. What's the part number for that flex? I'll order a few...

Thanks!

PN: 8405310W04 FLEX LCD SPKR
Unit of Measure: 1 EA Available-Yes... List price: $25.20

But if you replaced it with a new housing recently, why do you feel it may be bad again?

If it was done carefully the last time it should not have just gone bad. May not be seated properly in the flex connector. Lift the connecter tabs just enough to lift out the flex, then re-seat the flex properly and push the connector lock back down with gentle back and forth motion until it bottoms. The flex will then be secured in place.

Some don't realize the connector can be ruined if the tabs are lifted beyond about 1/8". A bad connection at the flex connector can cause exactly the problem you're having.

OP asked about flex only. The flex cable is $25.20 MOL.

NTN7087 is a shield assembly with the flex, shield and switch housing already put together. It would, naturally, cost at least a couple of times more.
