hello
I'm new to the forum.
I work in a Commo shop in Western Pa.
We have a real nice XTS3000.
Trouble with the charger NTN7209A, charging lite blinks when the radio or battery is docked. Owner says he has several like this and we would like to find a tip to fix this problem and have the customer become a "regular" by fixing something that is well made instead of selling a new one.
OR is it cheaper to buy new in this case?

Re: XTS 3000 Charger
What batteries are you using? The 7209 will not charge Li-Ion batteries, and IIRC some of the early chargers did not even support Ni-Mh.fredradio wrote:hello

Re: XTS 3000 Charger
The battery is a stock Motorola NTN8294A NikCad.
I temporarily charged the battery for a few minutes with some external leads, thinking that the battery may be shorted or just too low to charge. Still the same blinking red charge lite on the charger.

Re: XTS 3000 Charger
What is the datecode on the battery? Blinking red usually means the battery isn't chargable...
Re: XTS 3000 Charger
The battery is not the problem. The battery charges in another NTN7209A charger with no problems. Is there anybody here knowledgeable in the repair of the charger?? We have a customer who has a few of these with same problem. It would be nice to find the $.50 part and repair rather than take the easy way out "and buy a new one". We do not have the schematic here.
I'll go to the Moto board and see what happens there.

Re: XTS 3000 Charger
You didn't clearly state in your previous posts that you tested said battery in multiple chargers and it would charge in some, and not others.
As asked, how old are these batteries? It is not unusual for some chargers to charge a battery with what you are describing, and others not to. I spent a day "cycling" batteries thru several charges with the infamous blinky red light status, and it all came back down to the batteries being at the end of their life cycle.
There is not enough information to diagnose that its a charger problem, and even more of is guess (if it actually is a charger problem) to pinpoint where it is. You would need a service manual for the charger and start to trouble shoot the components. How long of a charge (when charged) do these batteries take?
You stated you work at a comm shop. Most, if not all I have been in have a battery analazer to test out the batts. Have you done this to see the health of the batteries?
