M1225 Programming

Post by BigJim »

Just bought an M1225 VHF.. How fussy are they on having the latest software? Can't read the radio, get an error saying the rib can't talk to the radio basically.. Check cables, make sure rib has power, and make sure radio is powered on.. The latest software I have is HVN9054C.. I understand there is a D & E version.. I am wondering if it's software related because I have programmed a few M1225s before and haven't had a problem.. Rib and cables are good, they have been used heavily this past week. Have tried win 98 for the heck of it but programmed the others with 2000.. Showing same errors with both operating systems.

Thanks, BJ

What radios do you own?: HT1550's, X9000's, CDM1550's

No I don't.. This was a last minute purchase in case one of my spectras fails during harvest. Would have tried to read another one if I did. Haven't done a 1225 for a couple of weeks.

Forgot to add: This is my exact error:

RADIO NOT ACTIVE
Check the following
1. Connection from RIB to Radio
2. Power Supply for the radio
3. Is the radio on?

I remember sometime back (not with an M1225) the RSS stating codeplug too new.. Do you still get that sort of error or will the RSS just not even try to read the radio like is happening to me?

I did read on this forum also where someone was having trouble with a Polaris RIB.. I am using a Polaris PA 1 rib. I didn't think it was the problem since it is the same rib I have used on all my moto stuff including the 1225s I have done in the past.. I don't have any other 1225 radios to try right now. Have sold or traded them to friends..

For 1225 RSS
Version must match operating system.

If you are using Win XP or Win2000, you must use 4.0 version of software. 3.x versions will not work.
If you are using Win 95, Win 98 or Win ME, you must use 3.x version of software. I believe latest is Version 3.2
You can not switch operating systems with the same version of software.
Not sure if this is your problem, but these are musts for it to work.

FIXED

Re-installed the 3.1 software to win 98 and it now works. No errors, read it the first time and also writes fine. Don't know what the hang-up was the first time I tried win 98..

Thanks to all who took time to read!!!

One other thing I forgot to mention re:1225 RSS

You can program a radio with the 4.0 version of software on an XP computer and then later program the same radio with the 3.2 version of software on a Windows 98 machine. One of the few programs with Motorola that will allow you to reprogram a radio with a lower version number software. There actually is no difference between the 3.2 version and 4.0 version except operating system requirements.
