Programming MTS-2000 Recieve only

Post by ke5fgc »

When programming an MTS-2000 for type II trunking is there a way to set the personalities to be receive-only. I know how to do it in conventional programming and was wondering if Trunking had the same option.. I am using R02.02.00 of the MTS-2000 CPS

What radios do you own?: XTS2500, XTS5000, and MTS2000

no. you cannot set any Motorola trunking radio to "RX only". You can disable TX by setting the concentric switch (both positions) to TX disable. The MTS2000 can be set to PTT affiliate but there is no option to make a trunking radio have RX only personalities.

ok, thats what i thought.. I will try the concentric switch TX inhibit as all i really wanted to do was prevent accidental keyups.

not going to give you the lecture about unauthorized programming of trunking radios, there is a plethora of info on why this is a bad idea in the first place, personally I would go a step further, remove the PTT popple. Don't use a speaker mike. Make sure that you do set both positions to TX inhibit or use the menu option and lock out TX radio wide.

These tricks only work on older Smartnet analog radios like the MTS2000. They don't work on Astro 25. The scanner is the best route. I like the PSR500, no worries about getting in trouble for just having one either.
