HT1250-LS - "Radio Locked" - What does it mean?

Post by Ben10001 »

I recently picked up a stock of decommissioned HT1250-LS radios from a volunteer ambulance after they upgraded, and most of the radios give me the "Radio Locked" massage when i turn them on and everything seems to be disabled.

When I read the radio I was able to pull the codeplug but was no able to flash it with a modified one.

I figure it has something to do with the password being entered wrong, but I am not sure. Also is there any way for me to remedy the problem?

Thanks.

just read the radio and disable the password and write it back to the radio. or in the password section it will tell you what the password is

I tried doing that but without disabling the password, but I got an error saying that "write device failed" and when i clicked ok the radio rebooted and I got that same message.

All I need to do is disable the password and it should write fine?

that's right, just disable the password and it will work. or read it again and look at what the password is in the cps and push that number into the radio when it asks for it then push the top right button on the keypad to enter and it will turn on.

My personal EX600 works like that, I have my password setup and when i switch the radio on I key in my password and hit the menu button.

But with these ht1250's im getting a message "Radio Locked" not "Enter Password". See picture:

So what do I do, any suggestions?

Ben, go up to the "Search" icon & type in HT1250LS Radio Locked you might see something there, that may help...there are 2-3 posts there that have the same prob as you.

oh i bet i know what that is? i'll bet you've entered the wrong password three times and the radio has locked itself. i think it's like 15 minutes you have to wait before you can enter the password again. now that is only gonna work if the internal clock is working, if it's not, then it's stuck in a time loop and you might have to send that in to be fixed and the internal battery replaced. i don't know if a firmware upgrade will fix that along with removing the password but may be worth a try? did you buy it that way? if so then the person that sold it to you knew exactly what was wrong with it and that's why they sold it.

Yep! thats what I read also HLA !!! I went to a few other sites and they did the exact same thing.... a few forced a codeplug in if they found one that was the same model, but no results were posted? a few sent theres back to moto, and moto is not saying what they did of course! I put in a few phone calls to some people who have HT1250 LS portables. I told them to post back here.... Jim

Ok... here's the deal. There is a small button cell Li-Ion battery inside the radio that can and does go dead, and it controls the clock. What has happened in the past is that when the battery goes dead, the clock no longer keeps time, so that when the radio becomes locked from an incorrect password entry, it doesn't know when to reset itself.

The best course of action would be to get all the radios reflashed to the current firmware and in doing so, have the radio lock feature disabled.

Please excuse my ignorance with this question, but how do I upgrade the radios firmware?

p.s. I got these radios from a local volunteer ambulance that closed shop... if that answers any questions...
