effect of leaving Impres battery in charger indefinitely?

Post by adlertom »

What happens if an Impres battery is left in an Impres charger indefinitely, like for several months?

I read or heard somewhere that the Impres charger checks the battery pocket every 5 seconds to see if the same battery is present, or if a different one has been put in.

If that is true, would the battery eventually self discharge and go dead, even sitting in the charger?

Or, will the battery be periodically recharged, or even discharged/recharged? If that is the case, how often?

Would the "gas gauge" battery meter on the portable radio still function, even if the battery was inserted into the charger more than 7 days prior?

Thanks,

Tom

If the IMPRES firmware is 3.4+ (although I believe 3.4 is what's current) then it should be fine. I know earlier revisions had problems with discharging the batteries and screwing up batteries though.

I noticed that went out the window after about firmware version 9 or 10 (can't recall the exact rev)... I think that 7 day period for the gauge to go away has been stretched out. I've seen some of my fuel gauges last weeks without a charge, and this is on multiple radios, not just a fluke with 1 or 2...

Stupidity creates job security!

If your radio has old firmware, programming it with the latest CPS will not add any new features unless you have the latest firmware to match..

CPS = Customer Programming Software, Not CPS Software.
