Astro Saber Serial Number Change, Can it be done?

Post by mancow »

I have a group of astro saber model III portables that apparently have all been cloned by way of S record write pack/unpack.

Is there any way at all to correct the serial number? For info, they have all been hit with the most current CPS.

A hex edit on the S record results in a checksum error. Is there a way to calculate and insert the correct sum or some other way at all? I would really like to get these back to where they match their original housings.

I don't know if it can be done with a radio that has been used with CPS. I know it can be done with radios that were last programmed, or can be programmed, with the DOS RSS. It requires reading the radio, cloning it, entering the serial # you want your radio to be in the serial field, then saving the archive. Next MTSX Labware is used to read/write with no unpack and there ya go.

I know, that's my problem. The new CPS codeplug is causing the MTSX stuff to freak out.

OK well if it can't be done then the next question...

What would happen if two or more units with the same serial number were placed on a true 9600 P25 system? Is there a conflict somehow? I can't imagine how but I'm not 100% sure.

Shouldn't matter. The individual ID is the important part.

You can change the serials - find an older archive that's RSS-compatible and has the features you want, change the serial number in the clone screen, back out, save, then force the saved plug into the radio.

I can't seem to find an older archive with this band and features but if that's the only way then I'll keep looking.

I'm glad to hear that you don't think it will be an issue. Maybe I should just not mention it and carry on as normal. I was also worried about future re-banding and the State picking up the tab via Nextel. I could see someone telling us to piss of because they have been "messed with". Maybe I'm just cynical but after a while you get use to people finding a way to screw you.

As posted at Hamsexy. A $100 paypal reward stands for the first person that can help me through this.

I really don't want to have to send these all back if possible if the TRS admins get worked up over the deal.

If you're planning to turn them in for rebanding replacement, they will need to have legit tags and serial in the radio. You might post your flashcode to see if you can find a codeplug.

The model is: H04UCH9PW7AN (800 Mhz)

Flash is: 540008-000480-6

You cant try to edit the serial number with the SN tool from the Rooster package.

That will only change the internal serial. It can not locate (and change) the external serial, so unfortunally that won't work...

Rooster can go back to the hen house for now

You can edit the internal and external serial number with a hexeditor (without correcting the codeplug checksum)and use MTSX/Astrolab (read/write with no pack/unpack) to program it into the radio.
Rooster will let you read this bad codeplug from the radio and correct the checksum!

Rooster over here only sees the first internal serial/model. The external serial number is in a different location than the Rooster looks at, so it's putting the external serial number in a different location than it should be. Maybe rooster has different variants, but I do know some roosters won't work for this project.

Last time I asked this question for the same reasons, my topic was deleted and I got yelled at in PM from an admin.
Look, it's not in my nature to be mysterious. But I can't talk about it and I can't talk about why.

I think it's some foreign lab stuff that really isn't of any real use.
