Ford Ranger Install

Post by KD7TZ »

Any body got any secrets they want to share for installing a mobil in a new Ford Ranger? Cutting is an undesireable option but if I have to so be it.

Cut holes.

What kind of mobile, console / no console, stickshift / auto...etc. Gotta feed the monster here if you want to reap the benefits.

Here are some pictures of an install in an 08 Ford Ranger. Hope this might give you some ideas. I came up with the mounting plate but didn't do the installation.

The top radio is a CDM1250 VHF, the lower is a Radius low band.

The low band antenna is mounted in the middle of the roof to get the best location for ground plane. The VHF mounted is on the front fender to avoid dueling antennas.

Not bad... but you need some black Krylon (or powdercoat) for that plate!

Nice install! Does anyone know how to remove that map holder on the trans tunnel to gain more room? I want to do that in my Ranger.
Thanks

Remove the rubber liner in the bottom of the pocket to reveal the Phillips screws in the bottom, then remove the Phillips screws. Just be aware there's an opening in the carpet or mat to accommodate the shifter on manual tranny models. If you're gonna cover it up with radios like I did, it won't matter.

Maybe Ken and KD7TZ could share some pics of their installs? Always interested to see what others do, there is always a better way.
