Spectra mounting bracket

Post by Hoseman292 »

Gents,

I have two Spectras that I would like to piggy-back (mount one on top of the other) together for a mobile install.
Can anyone tell me if Motorola makes such a bracket that is capable of pairing two radios together? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Not to my knowledge. I have done this on several occasions. I used some 1 inch angle material.
Mounted a plate from the second layer and bolted the second Spectra to it.

You mount the first set of angle on the floor running the same direction as the radio. Just space it
out a tad. Bolt 4 pieces going up for the corners. Bolt a second set at the top and mount the plate
to them. Just remember to make it high enough to allow space for your mounting tray bolts through
the plate above the bottom radio. If you know someone that can weld all the joints up, it will be
more rugged that bolting it all together.

I used a piece of rack panel for my vertical pieces. Have two radios mounted above each other under
the rear seat of my F250. Mounted one radio normal and the second upside down. If I leave the rear
seat up, I can even mount a third radio on the top of the plate.

One of my radios is a high powered Spectra and the other one is a high powered GE Delta-SX.

thanks for the reply Jim.

I drive an Excursion which is basically the same vehicle as your F-250. I never considered an under the seat option since both radios are dash mounts which would make things a great deal easier having only to install the two control heads to the stock armrest/cupholder. I do appreciate your post.

They do make a double-bracket for two dash-mount radios. It looks like the typical trunnion with longer "ears". Part #YLN4718A.
