Interesting Railroad Spectra variation...

Hey folks, been a while! Anyhoo, last night I had a unit with a regular (non-Astro) AAR Spectra, and it had an odd pattern, 12 small holes with a bunch of smaller holes in between, stamped into the grill down near the 7 and * keys. It looked factory from what I could tell, and had no differences from any other AAR Spectra otherwise. I have a picture available for anyone interested, IM for details.

What's the scoop? Experimental or future expansion something or other?
