Motorola Bluetooth vs Freelinc

Post by elkbow »

I read the old data and reviews of the Motorola BT, which also talked about the freelinc in the thread.

So since several months has passed, i was looking at one or the other. Wanted to know opinions of both and noticed that the Freelinc Freemotion is now $249 with the adapter, which I believe it used to be $349

Also, anyone have info of either the FreeMic or FreeMotion. I was looking at more the FreeMotion since it has the earpiece that goes in your ear, would would be better direction on hearing than a BT headpiece, unless you went with one of the BTs that would pair up that goes in your ear

here is the Freelinc site:

As I recall, the complete Motorola Bluetooth package for the XTS radios was
selling for something around $200 complete. Depending on what kind of radio
you have, that fact might be the decision maker, as well as the fact that it
looks as if Freelinc does not make an XTS adapter, according to their list, but
their Motorola adapter thingie looks as if it just might be for an XTS. Maybe
they can clarify this for you, again depending on what HT you're using.

Looks to me as if they call an XTS an MTS in their FA01 blurb.

I just ordered the Freelinc Mic for my XTS-5000. I should have in a few weeks. I will let you know how well it works. It looks neat and I am excited about it.

We have some of the Freelinc mics. I have tested them without the earbud was not impressed from a radio guys point, not a cop or fireman. RX'ed Analog audio sound distant like the user is talking into the mic 3 feet away. RX'ed and TX'ed Digital sound like crap compared to the NMN6193C.

Now from the cop's, they like them with the ear buds. They say it is 100% better with ear bud than without.

Ive tested both, I am assuming you are comparing the moto bluetooth to the freelinc freemotion. Comparing the bluetooth adaptor to a freemic is kinda apples/oranges to me.

I'd say the audio from the bluetooth is better, freelink audio sounds muffled and distant like the other poster says, but by no means is it unusable, and is fine. (once youre used to the different sound)

The freemic also has similar distant audio, but again works great (I've had no complaints from a few I have fielded, used both in analog and ASTRO digital).

I got the M bluetooth several month ago ($160). Did not care for the motorola earpiece that came with it. Audio was weak and would not stay on my ear. I purchased a Jawbone and paired it to the radio unit. Works great, stays on my ear, cuts out background noise, etc

I have a dumb question. how do you PTT the radio when using the bluetooth headset?

i thought the moto unit had a ptt button on the side of the headset. i dont know how a Jawbone or other headset would work then.
