MTS-2000 programming ?

Post by CFD_1534 »

I have a MTS-2000 I tried to program with RSS version R06.00.00, and i got the radio toolproofed, bricked, or whatever. So, I got a few junk radios, and put them together to have another that works. Now what I'm asking is I had this "new radio programmed at a radio shop with software version R06.03.00 and the firmware version of this radio is R05.65 and it programmed fine. They used a standard cable and rib, and it programmed fine. They have the R06.08.00 version update but they havn't put it on their computer yet, and if they were to put that on their computer and use it, would it possibly tool the radio? Or is this "toolproof" thing on that disk, or could it be already on the computer? They do not mess with MTS-2000's, only when I bring them in. They mainly do MT-2000's, HT-1000's, and a few JT-1000's. Thanks for the help,

What radios do you own?: XTS2500, XTS5000, and MTS2000

Toolproofing lies within the radio's firmware itself. Unauthorized use of Lab, depot, etc changes a byte set at the factory that renders the MTS2000 useless. There are other threads about toolproofing on here, a quick search will bear much information on the subject.

ok, I read some, and as long at the disk has "Radio Service Software" on it, then if you use that then all is good? I just don't want to take a chance of toolproofing another radio. Thanks,

First off, read up on toolproofing on the MTSX page on the main site: http://www.batlabs.com/mtsx.html

Now, since the toolproofing *ahem* "feature" was added as of firmware v5.42 circia late 1994/early 1995, and MTSX RSS R06.00.00 has a release date of September 1997, unless there's a defect with that particular revision of RSS, legitimate RSS shouldn't go anywhere near to toolproofing a radio.

Without knowing exactly what happened to the first radio, it's very hard to say for sure that it was toolproofed versus something like the connection to the radio was interrupted during programming, software crashed, etc. If you wanted to post more detailed information about what happened in the first place that would go a long way towards making that determination.

In any event, unless there's yet another problem with this "new" radio, there's no reason why you should have to program it with the latest and greatest MTSX RSS. Now, if it's a matter of it does need or will need in the future some additional programming, and the shop you're taking it to may upgrade to the latest RSS in the meantime, well, if they brick your radio it's kind of on them.

Long story short, legit RSS shouldn't toolproof a MTS, so either there's something else going on or it wasn't toolproofing to begin with.
