pr400: PL/DPL edit feature?

Post by eboe »

looking at the catalog sheet for the PR400 series portable radios, there is a feature listed for the 32/64 channel models called "PL/DPL edit". Anybody know what this is? Is the radio front panel programmable for PL & DPL? if so, i'm not sure that's such a good feature to have on a radio. I'm in the process of changing all the DPL's on our radios because we have too many lost & stolen units that are unaccounted for. A feature like this kinda defeats that if any user can just change the DPL along with me. unless of course you can turn that feature off in the CPS or take it out of the menu.

Anybody know for sure?

Eboe,

PL/DPL Edit is a front programmable option on the radio. You should be able to get details in the user manuals "getting started" section if you decide on the radio. When you are programming the radios with the CPS, you should be able to remove this function if it is something you don't want users to access. I can see how having it would be a problem in your scenario, but it is helpfull for others.

Thanks,

I have a question regarding the edit PL (from keypad) feature of the PR400.

How does one switch from PL to DPL? For example, one channel (personality) has a PL of 151.4, how do I change it to DPL of 503 from the keypad?

Likewise how do I change a DPL of 143 to PL 131.8 from the keypad?

I can change a DPL to another DPL or PL to another PL, however I can not switch fom PL to DPL or visa-versa? Is it possible?

Thanks,

If it's anything like all the other MPL radios Motorola has released, you have to have the PL/DPL codes in a preprogrammed list in the radio.

I don't think it's like MPL. I am able to scroll through all PL codes if the channel was originally setup for PL. I am able to scroll through all DPL codes if the channel was originally setup for DPL.

I cannot go from DPL to PL or PL to DPL. I've even tried to directly enter the code with no luck.

Is it possible to manually change from PL to DPL via the keypad?

Thanks,

This is just a guess on my part, but it sounds like each channel has the type of encoding programmed into it. If this is the case, you can't go from PL to DPL or vice versa.

Itried this today with a few UHF PR400s in the shop.

I can edit PL or DPL, but not edit a PL into a DPL or vice versa..CPS does not allow this as once the channel is programmed for either one, you are stuck using that format.
