Motorola CDM1550 Freq help

Post by nyrescue »

I had purchased a Motorola Radio for my vehicle but then noticed the Freq range is from 403-470. I live in NYC where all NYPD and EMS are in the 470-480+ range. Have I a useless unit now?

Yes. Sell the radio and buy a high-split UHF (450-520) model.

Just some friendly advice.... be aware, Unless you are a police officer or have a permit from the city, NY state law prohibits having a radio in your vehicle capable of monitoring police frequencies. If you have a legitimate use for this, I suggest you apply for a permit from the city otherwise you could get in trouble.

But to answer your question, sell the radio and get one with the higher UHF frequency split.

Amateurs are exempt from that law as almost all modern radios are capable of monitoring those frequencies.

Besides, if they take your radio without a warrant, it's felony theft of a federally licensed station, ewven the removal of a mobile antenna can fall under this as well.
Get a lawyer versed in radio law, and use it as a hammer to beat the cops in fed. court if and when they decide to play hardball.

Remember, even a radio falls under the 4th amendment protections as it too, IS private property, and no matter WHAT some panty waist judge says, the constitution still reigns supreme as the basis of legal actions, and no cop can state that he or she 'is' 'due process' either.
So the old proverb stands with me...show me a valid warrant first, or take a freakin' hike off a pier...

Sorry to rant, but I take my rights very seriously!

This is correct. The radios can be taken out of band, but how to do it has not been published AFAIK.
