Flashing a HT1250 to a HT1550

Post by kg6uyz »

Is it possible to flash a HT1250 to a HT1550?

I have successfully flashed a HT750 to a HT1250 but wondering if it will flash to a 1550?

I think you'd need a new casting - the castings for the 1550's are larger than the 1250's by a good 3/4" if not bigger.

Sounds like it may not be worth the effort.

I compared the Tanapa from an HT1250 to an HT1550 and the HT1550 board / chassis is longer and as Alex said the housing is longer.

Even if you could blast in a 1550 codeplug you wouldn't be able to convert the front cover to match the model.

plus the 1550 comes with built in voice recorder that the 1250 will only support with a plug in and the 1550 is also a ltr radio and i don't think there is enuf memory in the 1250 to handle it even if you could force it?

The eeprom is bigger in the HT1550XLS (512k) and an HT1250,750 has a 128k eeprom. Now the GP680 euro model has a 512k eerpom I believe becase it will do 255ch so who knows that one may work ? The Ex600XLS also has a bigger eeprom but i'm not sure what size.
