You need a new plastic insert retainer.

Re: XTS5K ch knob problem
Most likely you just need a new channel knob insert. It's the white nylon piece under the knob itself. They are under $2.00 IIRC.bulletproof-791 wrote:XTS5K ch knob problem...........while getting out of my unit tonight the seat belt cought the knob and poped it off ! i put it back on but now it is loose and will come off easy now...my ??? is can it be fixed or will i need to recase the radio.....................anyone have any idea ?...thanks scottt

FYI, the new inserts do not come with the 1..16 label, that's a seperate part number:

Does just the black rubber knob come off? If the white plastic insert stays on the radio, then the white insert is probably ok.
The rubber knob has a white plastic piece that snaps off when the rubber knob is ripped off or taken off improperly. Look inside the rubber knob and look for an off center white piece of hard plastic shaft. If it's missing, then you just need a new rubber top knob.
I've never seen the actual insert go bad, just the knob breaking it's plastic off-set shaft.
