VHF Spectra power adjust

Post by toyradios »

Can someone tell me how to adjust to power output on a high-power VHF Spectra.

Need to bring it down to 50 watts.

Not sure if it is a "soft pot" or actual adjustment inside the chassis.

Thanks

Should be in Mode Options to set to low power which is about 50 watts on a high power Spectra...

I don't have Spectra RSS in front of me here at the office - I'm sure someone else will chime in by the time I get home :)

Your Spectra is set for 50 watts on LOW power. Select the Mode options, look at the right side for the power selection HIGH or LOW.

F4 Change/Create/View Radio Codeplug Data
F5 Mode Configuration
Select the mode you want to modify (F4 next, F3 previous)
F7 Mode Opt 1
Change the selected option by using the Tab key
Right hand side of the menu should show Transmit Power which defaults to High - change this to Low by using the up/down arrow keys.

I presume you've verified this with a service monitor?

The OP needs to spend some quality time with a service monitor and align the radio properly before making ass-u-mptions. I've seen plenty of Spectras turned up far higher than they should be... or turned down far enough that they generate all sorts of garbage up and down the spectrum. One will lead to a magic smoke release from the PA... the other may result in interference with other licensed users and thus attract the ire of the FCC.

The power adjustment is a soft-pot in the service menu of the RSS... but you need to have a decent service monitor with spectrum analyzer to ensure the radio isn't generating spurs all over the place, along with an ammeter to verify the PA is being reasonably efficient and thus not generating tons of excess heat resulting in premature failure. If you don't have the equipment, I'd suggest your local radio shop or finding a local ham with such gear.

And how do I know know toyradios' Spectra is 50 watts on low power...?

I overhauled his Spectra and that is part of the calibration and alignment.

Perhaps that would have been pertinent information to include in your original post.

Question's been answered.
