MCS2000 - codeplug - a few questions

Post by g8tzl2004 »

I have a UHF MCS2000 Model II head 403-470MHz 25W . Model number M01RHM9PW5AN , Radio Software 00.12, Radio Codeplug ver 000A , Program source RSS with Sys key , Flashcode 000004 - 000000 -6.

I have successfully programmed the MCS2000 with DOS RSS (last version) but there is a "strange" effect with programming the buttons on the Model II head.

To program the bottom 9 keys , you have to use the microphone keypad input screen - keypads 1 to 9 exactly match the bottom row of the Model II head reading from left to right. When you read the codeplug , instead of the button values appearing in the Model II input screen , they appear in the Mic keypad input screen. The values in the Model II head input screen are all blank - if you input values into the Model II head input screen , none of the buttons work when you upload.

Anybody any idea if this is due to a corrupted codeplug?? Or is it due to some custom firmware for, say , a custom data control head?

Can you corrupt a codeplug by just reading the codeplug (not writing)? I origianlly read the codeplug with old RSS getting "codeplug too new" error.

I am using a 486 Win 95 laptop. Can you corrupt a codeplug by accessing the DOS prompt by starting Win 95 and then exiting to DOS - rather than using a DOS bootdisk to get the DOS prompt? I did NOT use DOS in a WIndow.

Can a corrupted codeplug just cause button allocation "funnies" or does is it usually involve a complete failure of the radio to do anything?

Will programming the MCS2000 with CPS rather than RSS help? I used some CPS to JUST read the codeplug from the archive (NOT by uploading from the MCS2000). One small difference I did notice when looking at the radio info with the CPS was that the codeplug version was stated as 000F rather than 000A - not sure what this means? But the CPS still showed all the Model IIcontrol head buttons in the mic keypad input screen.

Any thoughts?

Thanks
