MSF5000 TRNK to CONV Code Plug Change

Post by rfsystem »

I'm having no luck changing a MSF5000 Code Plug from TRNK to CONV. Secure board and Trunk board have been remove and disabled in the code plug. When I try to program the Conv info the controller goes to prg mode but RSS response with cannot communicate error. Any help on how to change the code plug?

There's a whole different code plug you need to start with for Conventional. It came with the RSS package: CONV.DEF or CONV_3.DEF depending on the System Version (firmware combination). You can't use a Trunking code plug for conventional operation, and vice versa. I guess there are just too many things that would have needed to be changed via RSS screens, so they just made it easier and gave you some default code plugs to start with.

Make sure the hardware you have or are missing (TTRC, Sec, MCS, etc) is correctly accounted for in the Station Model/Options RSS screen page 2. Having one of these enabled when you don't physically have the hardware attached (and jumpered properly on the SSCB) will give you big problems.

Thanks Bob. Worked with a conv3.def but not a conv.def. Greg

Bob, I'm almost done with this beast but have one more issue. I'm getting the two beeps for the PA and don't get the Full PA led when keyed. I've done the power, cutback and other related alighments but the led never comes on. PA puts out full power and seems to have no other symptoms. I've swapped PA's and controllers and still have the problem. What do I look for on the RT unit? Also is it possible to turn off the Beeps when it first keys up to do the CWID?

Thanks
Greg

Try adjusting the power while the repeater is transmitting via the PTT switch on the control panel instead of keying the repeater with an HT or service monitor.

I had this same problem recently and it was corrected when the power was adjusted with the PTT switch held down.

This some how teaches the controller the new settings.

If this is a repeater with an internal duplexer/filter, tuning of that unit is critical. If there's too much loss in the pre-filter, the station will realize it's sending too much drive power for a given amount of output power, or it will take too long for the PA to come up to full power, and you'll get an alarm. Also, make sure you aren't trying to get too much power out of the station. A 110w PA is only good for about 60w out of the duplexer/filter. I've seen such stations pushed to 120w OUT and they're not happy at that setting.

You can enable or disable alarms that go over the wire line and over the air separately. They're on the 2nd MODE page.
