P1225 HAM band mod?
Can the p1225 VHF be modified to operate on 444 mhz? I think it was last programmed with version 4 RSS, will that be a problem? Thanks, Matthew KE5WXN

As a general rule, no, a VHF radio won't work on UHF.

Yes, a P1225 UHF will program below 450 using the Shift trick in the RSS as discussed here

My understanding was that if the radio was programmed or read with version 4 then it could not be programmed with anything lower than version 4, please tell me I'm wrong! Or is there a way around this? Thank you for your time, Matthew KE5WXN

Thats a general rule with most of the newer radios, the radio won't program with something older than what it was last programmed with. Now if it was just read with version 4, it will be fine, its only writing to the radio that affects what you can program it with the next time.
"Archers."
"I beg pardon, sire. Won't we hit our own troops?"
"Yes....but we'll hit theirs as well. We have reserves....attack"

For JUST the M1225 series I do not think it is an issue. Read the radio with the previous version, if it reads correctly it should program correctly.artman wrote:My understanding was that if the radio was programmed or read with version 4 then it could not be programmed with anything lower than version 4, please tell me I'm wrong! Thanks for your replies, I will try to find a local shop that has 3.1 and try to read them to see what I have. Maybe I will have good luck, if not then maybe I can sell or trade for something else that will work with the Tech bands. Again thanks for all your help, Matthew KE5WXN

Matthew,
I can program and test them here if that helps, and at a lot less than a regular "shop".
There may be someone closer to you that could help too.
