Dropped my XTS

Post by ddiesel2006 »

Dropped my XTS5000 off the top of an apparatus today; about a 10' drop onto asphalt. I thought it'd be over with, but it still works (for the most part). Still have strong RX and TX, but none of the buttons on the front panel work.

Screen's still fine, just no buttons working. What's broke?

It's very possable the ribbon flex cable has just come loose. Open the radio and verify everything is plugged and seated properly.

Good luck

If it's intrinsically safe, you may not want to perform this...
Kilgore: Smell that? You smell that?
Lance: What?
Kilgore: Napalm, son. Nothing in the world smells like that.
Kilgore: I love the smell of napalm in the morning. You know, one time we had a hill bombed, for 12 hours. When it was all over, I walked up. We didn't find one of 'em, not one stinkin' dink body. The smell, you know that gasoline smell, the whole hill. Smelled like... victory. Someday this war's gonna end...

If you do open it, it's best to use the correct tool. It's only $4.20 from Motorola, and you will not crack your housing.

We had a fire radio with the same problem. I opened it up and found the connector for the front panel completly sheared off. Just for the hell of it I sent the radio to the depot and they repaired it under warranty!
