XTS 5000 Signalling/features Inoperable

Post by KD7FLY »

I've seem to run across a problem. I have an XTS5000 Model 2, and so far its done what I've asked it to do. I began toying with certain things, and I found out that most of it....doesn't work.

Here is the rough list of what does not work::
DTMF Signaling(Pre/Post) doesn't work, even after creating a standalone Personality for it.
Quikcall II does not work...not even on RX. It wont alert you when the tones go off, nor will it mute everything else out.
MDC-1200 Short side tone does not work.
MDC Messaging and Status do not work, even though I have the lists made up, the feature checked off in the MDC System, and the sub-menu added to the main menu.
The evacuate tone does not work(Yes, it is enabled in the Radio config. menu)
The DVRS Failsoft tones do not work(I followed the directions in a previous post).
Singletone does not work(Not that I need it...'just thought I'd bring it up.)

The list is most likely larger, but I just haven't had the time to continue to dig. Any ideas as to why this is so? :o

Here is the radio's specs(I think this is all the necessary stuff: )
Model number:
H18KEF9PW6AN
Flashcode:
140001-000000-3
Tuning version:
R01.09.07

I believe I am using Version 10 for the software.

I would be willing to bet you have extremely old host/dsp in the radio. In order to use many of the features found in the cps the radio has to have the firmware to support it.

Oh Jeeze...
The host version, as well as the DSP version are R04.50.00.

This will sound ridiculous - but is there an easy way to upgrade the two?

Try finding a Motorola service shop in your area that handles the high tier radios for a upgrade. Should cost around 75 bucks.

Well,
I dialed the local shop who deals with the county's XTS 3k's and the Astro spectras, and they said that only Motorola can do an upgrade like that...and its upwards from 375 dollars. -_-

Thanks for the help everyone...

Well, the county shop is wrong.

If all you're looking for is a firmware uplift, the cost is $75, and can be performed by anyone with a programming cable. Astro Spectras/XTS3000s require a SmartRIB, but don't cost any more. You will need to provide model/serial/flashcode information to Moto, who will send a package with an iButton capable of one firmware refresh, along with the appropriate firmware file.

I had similar problems on my XTS5000 with respect to MDC alias lists and Quick Call. Your firmware is definitely and issue with Quick Call. I had the firmware upgrade for $75.00 from my local shop and their tech was able to do it at my site. I believe you need verson 8.00.00 or higher in order to use that option even though it shows up in the CPS.

Your flashcode may not have the correct options either in order to diplay the MDC alias although you should be able to decode the hex address with the proper CPS settings.

Here is what I got for your Flashcode:

140001-000000-3

Q806/G806 IMBE / APCO-25 Digital Operation
H868/W969 Multikey Operation
H35/G48 Conventional Operation

I believe you need the H14/G114 option "Digital ID Display" I paid a bit more for this option. Something like $175.00. Again Motorola sent the Flash Dongle to my local shop and he did it on site when he did my firmware upgrade.

Hope this helps.

You're right.
I kind of figured that when one radio that had Digital ID Display did it, and this one did not. I'm not so concerned about seeing what ID comes up...just as long as I can "selectively call" a radio via MDC, I'll be fine.

It does help though, thank you.!
By the way, that is a ridiculous price for an upgrade. I don't understand why /\/\ decided to do that for MDC when other portables do it for "free." I guess that's just a really smart way to get money.:)
