CDM 1250 and "Unprogrammed" error

Post by N0RHM »

I did a search on this board and I couldn't find anything closely related. Our local Sheriff's Dept. is having issues with a number of cdm 1250 radios. When either just turned on or even on after a while they will show UNPROGRAMMED in the display and a loud tone is heard on the radio speaker. The only way to get the radio working is pull the fuse or power cord. Currently our local Motorola shop has 3 radios on the bench with this issue and has no answers. Has anyone had this issue in the past?

Thanks
Tim

Are you sure they aren't CDM1550ls+ models? I haven't seen the issue you describe on the CDM1250, but in the 1550 some passport fields need to be disabled or you might see that error occur.

What radios do you own?: Over 50 - All Motorola

Replace them with a MotoTrbo mobile which has a remote mount capability now and you won't have that problem.

I haven't found a solid answer either, they are just glitchy. Usually sending them to the depot fixes the issue IF it happens while Jose has it. Otherwise, it will be back with the same board.

Good luck!

i've never seen that in a standard 1250 either, will it let you read the radio or what happens when you open the codeplug and try to write it back to the radio?

It's been years since I've worked in the mobile shop and have no experience with the CDM series but just a thought. Is it possible that the synth. is intermittently going out of lock? What tells the uproc that the radio is unprogrammed? Just food for thought.

You didn't say what firmware version is installed in your CDMs, but I'll second John's suggestion. Upgraded firmware can solve a whole lot of buggy and intermittent problems. I'd start by making sure that the units that're giving you trouble have the latest revision installed.
